With a new year comes a new CTeen chapter. Just a few months ago, Tzemmy and Sophie Bassman moved to Budapest, Hungary, from the United States, in the hopes of establishing a program for Jewish youth in Hungary. Sophie Bassman shares how important it is to give others the Jewish education and love she was so lucky to receive from Chabad.
While they are still learning the language, and everything is very new, the Bassman’s have created a place where Jewish teens can come together to learn and explore their Judaism. Their goal is to reach as many Jewish teens as possible within Hungary and create excellent programs.
They are still learning what works for their chapter and the Jewish teens in Hungary, but they have established programs including “Bagels, Lox, and Tefillin” and biweekly “Torah Cafes,” which the teens love. One of the favorite CTeen events for the Bassmans was a paintball night with over 40 teens! The teens shared how they were amazed by the number of people that showed up. “Many didn’t even know there were that many Jewish teens in Hungary!” says Sophie.
All of this is proof that there are Jewish teens everywhere. This is only the beginning for CTeen Hungary; they plan to keep growing and inspiring more and more Jewish teens, and we wish them the best for their new chapter!
