Stop and take a moment to make a blessing on each food you eat. Here’s a handy-dandy guide to use for all your blessing needs!

  1. Bread made from the five species (wheat, barley, rye, spelt, or oat). However, for it to be considered “bread” the majority of liquid needs to be water. (Ex: pasta is not a bread)

Blessing: Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam Hamotzi lechem min haaretz.

2. Food that is made from grains but not considered bread. (Ex: crackers, pasta, cereal)

Blessing: Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam borei minei mezonot.

3. Wine or grape juice

Blessing: Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam borei pri hagafen.

4. Fruit, or anything that comes from a tree or bush.

Blessing: Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam borei pri ha-aitz.

5. Vegetables, or anything that comes from the ground.

Blessing: Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam borei pri ha-adamah.

6. All foods that don’t fall into any of the above categories (Ex: Water, chicken, candy)

Blessing: Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam shehakol nihiyah bed’varo.
